Can I Treat My Tent with MiraZyme?

MiraZyme does not utilize any hazardous or abrasive ingredients.

As you know, many tents are treated with a polyurethane (PU) coating on the underside of the tent fly and on the tent floor to provide waterproofing. This coating is not permanent and it is common for PU coatings to break down and delaminate. When this happens the fly or floor tend to get sticky, may have a foul odour or you may actually see the coating peeling away. From my experience with our customers, this typically begins to happen after about 10 years but can happen much sooner or later.

There is nothing in the MiraZyme formula that would cause the polyurethane coating typically applied to tent flies or tent floors to degrade. However, when using MiraZyme, it is required that you soak the item and completely saturate it with water. From my experience, when you soak a tent that has a deteriorating PU coating, the coating tends to get really sticky and gummy. The soaking tends to speed up the delamination process. That said, I have had customers write back to say that after soaking their tent in MiraZyme, the PU coating became sticky. Had they soaked the tent in water without MiraZyme, they would have experienced the same effect. That said, MiraZyme specifically will not cause the PU coating to break down, but soaking the tent in water can.

    „Yes, this product works…“ – L. Grimsley, Monroe, MI

„I personally recommend this to anyone who has a hard time taming the smell of their shoes due to their sweaty, smelly feet. Overnighting with others? Perfect. Pour some into a little travel pump (1″ diameter by 2″ tall), and spray 3-4 pumps into your shoes when you take them off (not much, just to make them just visibly damp) and leave them to dry overnight (1+ hrs). Voila! No smell or anxiety in the morning, or when you finish the day’s hike. Try it before the outing to make sure it works for you, best few bucks you’ll ever spend if you’ve had my problem. I only stumbled on to it online, and thought, what do I have to lose?! They work even better after washing them with the Mirazime (as instructed). TMI: I wear Merrill Chameleon II Stretch size 10, and my feet/shoes still stunk before Mirazime. NO MORE! ha! =D Hope this helps someone else!“– Momonari, Los Angeles, CA

MiraZyme is a critical part of my long hikes. I am using the same gear for months on end, so when I get home no matter how much I wash it there is a funk to everything. I wasn’t able to wear my “hiking clothes” in “normal life” because of that situation, until I tried MiraZyme. It is unbelievable. The odor that I couldn’t get out with 15 washes just disappears! It even works great on mildewed gear and clothing. I’ve heard that MiraZyme is used to clean dogs that have been sprayed by skunks. I completely believe it!“

„I wish I’d had this when we ripped a hole in our rain fly…instead we had to use superglue to attach the duct tape on opposite sides, fun times! I’ll just have to remember to shop MJ before we go camping again, that or not poke the stakes through the tent… “ -Katie, Keani, AK

„I’ve been using Mirazyme to clean my climbing shoes for a couple of years now. Give them a good scrubbing to get out the grime, then dunk them a few times in a mirazyme solution to get out the stink. Works better than most other home remedies. Works well on sneakers and other shoes as well. Quick and easy to use, but you’ve got to let the item air dry to work.“-Tabo, NY, NY

„Can you imagine the odor of a backpack after 5 unwashed weeks on the Appalachian Trail and then hiking in New Zealand? Just let me say that MiraZyme allowed me to bring this pack into an indoor storage space. Worked wonders! „– L. Manuglan, Memphis, TN
